Monday February 11

We will start with 15 minutes of silent reading but today we're going to focus on making connections. You can make three different types of connections: text to self, text to text, and text to world. The reason why making connections is a good reading strategy is because we build knowledge by comparing new material we read/see/hear with things we already know. As you read, look for one of each of those kinds of connections and be prepared to explain how one of them helped you connect to what you were reading. (If your connection didn't really help you understand the text, it could be that you've chosen a text that isn't challenging enough for you).

Next, we're going to recap what you should have submitted to Google classroom by now:

  • Learning Goals Reflection
  • Digital Footprint Inventory (graphic and paragraph)
  • Exploring Platforms (identifying features and conventions of media texts)
I'm going to give you 20 minutes to complete the exploring platforms sheet, at which point it must be submitted whether it's done or not.

Because now we need to talk about the Project Canvas--the project management tool that you will be using throughout the course. Today you're going to use it to plan the set-up of your portfolio and your first post.

Your first post in your portfolio must do the following:
  • Identify the purpose of your portfolio
  • Explain what you've done in the course so far (see above)
  • Talk about what skills/knowledge you think someone involved in business in the 21st century needs to be able to do/know.
